We are afraid that the answer will not be the one we dream of. We're afraid to hear “I don't feel the same” and face a reality where hope is no more. Until the words are spoken, there is room for fantasy: what if everything works itself out?

Sometimes it's not the rejection that scares, but the opposite - the fact that the recognition will change everything. After all, if the feelings are mutual, something new will begin, and change is always an unknown.

And confession also makes us vulnerable. It's as if we're revealing a part of ourselves to another person, not knowing how they will react.

But should we keep it all to ourselves? Sometimes honesty is the only way to find out the truth and not waste time guessing. After all, the only thing worse than saying and hearing “no” is never knowing what the answer could have been.
