In response to: Alcohol Addiction - Can People Change?
id: 52112
Addictions are the bane of society as there is no real cure for this type of sickness. It is something that will forever be with that person and their family. With help and support many people have kept it under control and even stopped but that urge is always there for most of those addicted. After years it may seem to get easier to stay away from it but sometimes a tragic event or loss may lead that person down the wrong path.
I have seen it work both ways thru my life and know people who have stopped drinking for 30 years but they say the urge to have a drink, a beer, a glass of wine is always there. It is the same with other addictions such as drugs, gambling, sex, and many others. People can become addicted to many different things but with counseling and support they can keep it under wraps. There are also people who are strong in mind themselves and are able to do it on their own but the temptation is still waiting to break their wall down and show the destructive powers of any addiction. No there is no cure but with the right love and support, it can be controlled. There are many groups today that can help but the first step is within the person who suffers from such addictions and that is to admit there is a problem. Then they must take the necessary steps to get help and support and live one day at a time. god bless all who have an addiction and I pray for their release.
