What Does Life Mean To You?
id: 10035441
I think, life is important because it procures a state of conscience in which we can learn and develop our actions and feelings, thus elevating our spirits and souls to higher refined levels. Different theories and ancient philosophical beliefs all over the world state that universal things like “being better” “not hurting others for no reason” “being aware of the world around us” “enjoying life”, etc. are good steppingstones on our path towards living a fulfilled life.

Thus, although we may argue that we lack information and precise indications to know what to do in this life, the clues and general information available is enough to have a sense of the good way to go in terms of increasing our humanity and transcending it eventually... “Oooh... I am confused and I don’t know much about religion or ethics sooo... can I punch that baby in the face?” No you cannot... :) Maybe there isn’t a universal law explained to us for every thing we should and shouldn’t do, but we are provided with an ethical compass that we all happen to share in order to be considered good human beings.

How about our loved ones, partner, future offspring, etc. are indeed important for our development, and giving ourselves to one another seems like a good way to develop ourselves as humans at the same time, however that should never eclipse our own actions and consequences for them. A clear example would be: “my daughter has a liver illness... she needs a new liver and there aren’t any available... I would do anything for my daughter, ergo, I will kill a healthy girl whose liver is compatible and save her that way”. In reality, we wouldn’t be saving her, we would be condemning ourselves with our horrible actions, motivated purely out of selfishness, since we love our offspring and hate other children genetically unrelated to us to the point of consider killing them for spare parts. So there should be limits and rules to love so that our actions don’t end up clouding our
judgment and distracting us from the fact that this life is only a state of existence where everyone ends up dying eventually.
