Balance between career and personal life: myth or reality?

Ten years ago, I thought success meant constant work, endless meetings, calls, deadlines, and absolute dedication to my profession. My life was scheduled down to the minute, and my calendar was booked months in advance. But one morning, when I once again woke up in a hotel room without remembering what city I was in, I realized something was wrong.

Work Shouldn’t Take Over Life

We, as women, are used to proving to everyone—including ourselves—that we can do it all: build a career, be amazing mothers, wives, friends, and volunteers. But the truth is, no resource is infinite—especially our energy and strength. I came to understand that the balance between personal and professional life isn’t a myth but a necessity. However, it doesn’t look the way we’re often told.

Not About Equal Parts, But About Priorities

Balance is not about dividing the day equally between work and personal life. It’s about flexibility and understanding that priorities shift in different periods of life. Is there a project that requires 80% of my attention? Fine, but I will definitely schedule time for my family. Is it an important day for my child? It will be a non-negotiable priority in my schedule.

How to Find Balance?

Identify what truly matters to you. A list of your key values will help you see what’s genuinely important and what you can let go of without regret.

Don’t be afraid to delegate. You don’t have to do everything alone—neither at home nor at work.

Rest is not a weakness; it’s a strategy. Regular breaks help restore energy and work more effectively.

Flexibility is the key to success. Sometimes, it’s important to step away from the plan to maintain balance.

Today, I am successful not only in my career but also in my life. I have learned to listen to myself and my needs, not chase an ideal, and create my own balance. Because true success is not measured by hours spent in the office but by the harmony between what we do and who we are.

How do you find your balance?
