Remember a time when you tried to be "positive" — what were you told? "Think about the good things!" "Don't worry, everything will be fine!" Yes, everything will be fine... but only if you stop ignoring what really troubles you. We live in a world where it's constantly pushed that "everything will be okay as long as you don’t dwell on the bad." But what if sometimes being sad or angry is okay? Caught in this trap, we start thinking that if we’re not smiling, we’re failures.
We’re not told that it’s important not just to be “happy,” but to experience the full range of emotions. If you don’t allow sadness, disappointment, or anger into your life, it’s like you’re blocking a part of yourself. We often close our eyes to negative feelings, thinking they’ll ruin our lives. But in reality, it’s by embracing these emotions that we can move forward and make more mature decisions. This isn’t positive thinking, it’s self-protection, covering up problems. It’s the inability to resolve our emotions and feelings.
If we constantly chase the illusion of happiness and avoid negative emotions, we can easily fall into a trap of self-imposed limitations. Understanding that it’s okay to be disappointed, sad, or angry is also part of life. We don’t have to be always “on top” and pressured by social standards. We’re just human. And true strength lies not in seeing the world through rose-colored glasses but in accepting reality as it is.
