My mother and grandmother and I start by discussing what we will put in this year. There must be Easter eggs — freshly baked, soft, with glaze and colored sprinkles. Next — eggs, always Easter eggs, often painted in onion husks.
We put sausage, horseradish, salt, cheese and a small cross made of dough — my grandmother taught us. We cover everything beautifully with a towel, an icon must be in the basket. And also, always — a candle.
Before going to church, everyone dresses festively. We don’t quarrel on this day — that’s what we were taught when we were little. Everyone greets us on the way, it feels like the village is living a holiday.
When the priest blesses the baskets, I always quietly make a wish. And I believe that it will come true. Easter is more than a tradition. This is when the heart rejoices and the soul shines.
