Since childhood, Easter has been something special for me. It’s not just a spring holiday, it’s real magic that fills the house with the aroma of fresh baked goods, ringing laughter and cozy bustle. I remember how my mother and I baked paskas — fragrant Easter cakes decorated with sugar icing and bright sprinkles. And, of course, pysanky! These painted eggs are real art. Each pattern on them has its own meaning: somewhere — a symbol of the sun, somewhere — a wish for health or good luck.
Ukrainian Easter is not only about food, although I admit, an Easter basket with ham, eggs, cheese and horseradish is a real gastronomic paradise! 😊 It is about the tradition of sharing. We do not just bless food in church - we share it with loved ones, neighbors, even with those who are alone. This is the time when hearts open, when you feel a special closeness to your family, to the land, to faith.
And there is also such a beautiful tradition - dousing on Polivaniy Monday! On the Monday after Easter, guys douse girls with water - playfully, but with a hint of sympathy. It is fun and mischievous in a spring-like way!
Easter in Ukraine is not just a religious holiday. It is a holiday of spring, life, hope and love. Especially now, in such difficult times, it has become a symbol of resilience and faith in the best. It reminds that after every winter, spring is sure to come.
And how are you with this holiday? Have you ever celebrated Easter? Do you know anything about Ukrainian traditions? It would be very interesting to hear your story, your thoughts.
