🌺 What is Vyshyvanka?

Vyshyvanka is not just a beautiful shirt. It is the code of the nation, encrypted in the pattern. Each pattern, each color — has its own meaning: protection, strength, love, fertility. Each region of Ukraine has its own embroidery features. And wherever Ukrainians are, wearing an embroidered shirt, they feel a connection with home.

📜 History of the holiday

Vyshyvanka Day began to be celebrated in 2006, on the initiative of students of Chernivtsi University. At first it was a small flash mob, but very quickly it grew into a large-scale national (and later international) movement. Today, on this day, embroidered shirts are worn not only in Ukraine, but all over the world — from Toronto to Tokyo.

💛 Why is this important today?

In the conditions of war, instability, external pressure, the embroidered shirt has become not just an element of clothing, but a real symbol of fortitude, dignity and cultural independence. Putting on an embroidered shirt, we seem to say: "I am Ukrainian. And I am proud of it."

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 How is it celebrated?

People come to work and school in embroidered shirts.

Parades, flash mobs, embroidery master classes are held.

In schools, children are told about the meaning of patterns and the history of the embroidered shirt.

On this day, photo sessions in national clothes are especially popular.
