Why is spring so long and still cold in Ukraine? date: May 19, 2025

🌧 Climate anomalies are no longer uncommon
Meteorologists unanimously say: the climate has become less and less predictable in recent years. Global warming is not only heat. It also means a change in the usual climate cycles. Spring 2025 in Ukraine has become another example of such disruptions.

🌬 Delay of warm air masses
Usually in May, warm air flows from the south, especially from the Balkans and the Mediterranean, begin to arrive in Ukraine. But this year, cold anticyclones from Scandinavia and the Arctic have taken the dominant position. They bring dry but cold weather, especially at night.

🌫 Increased cloudiness and prolonged rains
Most of April and May were accompanied by cloudy weather, frequent rains and no sun. This prevents the air from warming up, especially in the northern and central regions of Ukraine. And without the sun, there is no spring mood.

🌱 How does this affect people and nature
Such a cold May slows down plant growth, shifts the timing of flowering and agricultural work. People feel tired, lack vitamin D, and complain more about feeling unwell. Many joke: "Spring has been cancelled, we'll start right away with summer... if it happens at all!"

☀ What's next?
According to weather forecasters, warming is expected closer to the last week of May. However, the temperature will rise gradually. Real summer probably won't start until mid-June. That means there's still time to enjoy cool evenings, hot chocolate, and cozy blankets. And maybe slow down a bit - after all, spring is given to us so that we can feel alive again.
