🌡️ 1. Embrace the sun as the new normal
In Egypt, the sun is a daily routine, not an exception. Even in winter, temperatures can reach +25. Summer is another story: the heat can reach +40 and above. But don't worry - the locals have long learned to live with it, and so can you.
✅ My life hack: I never go out without SPF 50 sunscreen, a hat and glasses. Your skin will thank you 😉.
💧 2. Water is your best friend
In hot climates, dehydration occurs unnoticed, especially if you move a lot or are outside. I always carry a bottle of water with me - even for a short walk.
✅ Tip: avoid ice water, especially when you're overheated - it can cause cramps or even stomach problems. Drink water at room temperature with lemon or mint - it's delicious and refreshing!
👗 3. Clothing: light, free and... respectful of culture
Thin, light, natural clothes are your everything. Cotton and linen are the best friends of the skin in the heat. But at the same time, respect local traditions. Too open clothes can cause unnecessary attention.
What I wear: light maxi dresses, loose pants, tunics with ¾ sleeves. It looks feminine and comfortable even in +38 ☀️
🌬️ 4. Hello, air conditioner... but be careful
It's tempting to turn the air conditioner up to maximum, but the sharp temperature contrast can lead to a cold. Also, local air conditioners often run at full capacity in shops or offices - take a light scarf or cape with you.
✅ Life hack: at home, I turn on the air conditioner at +26-27 and put it in ventilation mode - you don't freeze, but you don't melt either.
💤 5. Changes in the daily routine
In the summer, activity on the streets subsides at lunchtime, which is the hottest time (from 12:00 to 16:00). Many locals observe a "siesta" - and it makes sense.
✅ What helps me: I moved my active activities to the morning or evening. It's nice to walk in the evening and work productively in the morning.
🧘♀️ 6. Give yourself time to adapt
The first few weeks can be difficult: weakness, headaches, fatigue are all normal manifestations of acclimatization. The main thing is to listen to your body and not force things. In a month, you won't remember how hard it was.
