🏘️ 1. Mansoura, the heart of the Nile Delta
Mansoura is one of those cities that tourists usually do not reach. There are no luxury hotels here, but there is something more important - authentic Egyptian life. Local bazaars, mangia cafes where men play backgammon and drink tea, narrow streets with washing on ropes and sincere smiles.
👉 What to see:
Bridge over the Damietta arm of the Nile
Talkha district - for lovers of photo walks
Fish markets that you won't see in Hurghada
🏜️ 2. Farafra Oasis - an eye in the desert
This place is pure magic. White desert, fantastic landscapes, salt lakes, hand-built clay huts. No Wi-Fi, but maximum recharge. Here you can live in a real Berber house, dine under the stars and listen to the silence.
👉 Especially impressive: The White Desert at sunset - a view like on Mars.
🕌 3. Islamic Cairo - a maze off the beaten path
Most tourists see Cairo as a chaotic city with noise and traffic jams. But there is another Cairo - ancient, slow, almost mystical. You just have to turn off the main streets into the narrow streets of the Al-Muizz district.
👉 My favorite route:
Al-Azhar Mosque
Al Muizz Street - a medieval gem full of stories
Khan el-Khalili - but not for souvenirs, but to sit in the Fishawy cafe with mint tea
🐟 4. Port Said - a city that lives by the sea
In the north, where the Mediterranean Sea meets the Suez Canal, is the city of Port Said. There are almost no tourists here, but it is full of fishermen, historic French-style houses and quiet promenades. The atmosphere is like in an old movie.
👉 What to try:
Fresh fish at the market, cooked right in front of you
A ferry ride across the canal
The old lighthouse and the remains of colonial architecture
🐫 5. Siwa - silence, dates and salt lakes
It's almost another world inside Egypt. Siwa is an oasis near the Libyan border, far from civilization. It is home to a Berber tribe with its own language and traditions. At night, you can't see a single light - only stars.
👉 Features:
Cleopatra's hot springs.
Salt lakes where you can swim like in the Dead Sea
Shali Fortress - an ancient city made of salt and clay
