What is fidelity?
Fidelity is not only the absence of physical infidelity. It is also emotional involvement, honesty, and a willingness to be there when things are difficult. Fidelity is a conscious choice, not just a consequence of falling in love.
Male and female fidelity: is there a difference?
1. Biological view:
According to evolutionary psychology, men are traditionally credited with the desire to spread genes, and women with the desire to find a reliable partner and care for offspring. These attitudes go back centuries, but in modern society they are often distorted or lose their power.
2. Social and cultural expectations:
In many cultures, women have traditionally been expected to be faithful and selfless, while men have been expected to be successful and rich. This has given rise to the myth that “male infidelity is normal, while female infidelity is a tragedy.” In reality, loyalty to a partner is a matter of personal maturity, not gender.
3. Psychology of attachment:
Research shows that both men and women are capable of deep attachment, loyalty, and emotional intimacy. Infidelity usually occurs not for biological reasons, but because of dissatisfaction, loneliness, a feeling of being misunderstood, and a loss of connection with a partner.
A modern perspective: do we choose fidelity?
Today, more and more people are taking a conscious approach to relationships. Fidelity is not a limitation, but a way to deepen love and trust. Fidelity is not just “not cheating”, but being close with your soul and body, being interested in your partner’s life, respecting their boundaries, sharing thoughts and experiences.
Both a man and a woman can be faithful - when it is their conscious choice, and not pressure from society. Fidelity is strength, not weakness. It requires courage, honesty and the ability to go through difficulties together.
Love begins with falling in love, but is preserved thanks to fidelity.
