Love lasts only 3 years: myth, reality or a stage?
id: 10055952

Origin of the phrase
The author of the expression is considered to be the French writer Frederic Beigbeder, who titled his novel this way. In it, he described the story of a man who is sure that love is chemistry that disappears after three years, giving way to boredom, routine and irritation.

But was it philosophy or just an artistic device? Let's figure it out.

Chemistry or habit?
From the point of view of neurobiology, falling in love is really accompanied by the release of hormones - dopamine, oxytocin, serotonin. This creates a feeling of euphoria, craving, dependence. But the body cannot live in this state for too long. Usually, after 1.5–3 years, the level of these hormones stabilizes, and the feeling of passion can fade.

But! This does not mean that love disappears. It just goes to another level - from a state of flash to a state of deep affection, respect and partnership.

Why do three years seem like a "deadline"?
Routine wins over romance. People stop trying to surprise each other.

Expectations do not match reality. The idealized image of a partner collides with everyday trifles.

Lack of growth in a couple. If the relationship does not develop, it begins to cause disappointment.

False confidence. Some believe that if "chemistry has passed", then everything is over.

But what if the opposite is true?
Many couples after 3 years feel closer than ever. The pink veil passes, the real personality remains. People learn to understand, forgive, accept. Trust grows, emotional connection strengthens. Yes, there may be less passion, but depth appears.

Result: love does not live for three years, but as long as it is created
Love is not only a feeling, but also a choice. You can live with a person for 30 years and fall in love with him again every morning. Or you can give in after the first difficulties.

The phrase "love lives for three years" is not a sentence, but a reminder: to preserve feelings, they need to be fed with attention, care and the desire to be together. True love is not a flash, but a fire that both support.
