How i discovered chopin (and why i now want a writing desk and a candle)

Yes, that’s right!

STEP ONE: DISHES AND PLAYLIST
I opened YouTube, typed in: “something beautiful for the background” — and out popped: “Nocturne Op. 9 No. 2 — Chopin”. I thought, well, okay, it sounds like “wine and vanilla”. And it just went off. My hands are foaming, and my soul is somewhere in 19th century Paris, I am in a corset (in my dreams, of course), and someone is writing me long letters with a pen on scented paper.
STEP TWO: ONE NOCTURÈ IS NOT ENOUGH
As usual, one video ends, the next one begins. And here I am, sitting in a chair, with a glass of red, Googling “Chopin’s great love”, reading about George Sand, and starting to ask myself deep questions:
Why don’t I drink tea from a porcelain cup by candlelight?
Why don’t I have a piano yet? (Okay, at least a ficus tree next to my laptop.)
Why haven’t I fallen in love with a man with an ear for music yet?
STEP THREE: CHOPIN IN LIFE IS A STYLE
Chopin is like chocolate with pepper. His music is not a background. It’s an atmosphere. He doesn’t demand applause – he wants you to feel it. And you know, I felt a lot:
That sadness can be beautiful.
That loneliness is not a drama, but a style.
That sometimes romance begins not with kisses, but with a pianissimo in the left hand.
Have you ever listened to music that just takes and... turns the day in a different direction?
That's how, imperceptibly, the composer with a mysterious smile and a complicated personal life settled in my heart. Sometimes he plays concerts there, sometimes he just reminds: “Stop. Feel. Breathe.”
Thank you, Chopin. For inspiration, for pauses, for rainy evenings with notes of tenderness and for the fact that now even the dishes are washed... almost in French.
