Social networks know us better than our loved ones. We leave bits of ourselves in them - thoughts, tastes, stories. But what happens to that when we're gone?

Digital immortality is no longer a fantasy. The accounts of the dead continue to collect likes, appear in memoirs, and pop up in chat rooms. Some see it as comforting. Some see it as an intrusion on grief.

Companies are developing AI that can maintain dialog in the style of the person who has passed away. This is both frightening and delightful.
But it begs the question: who are we really - those who live, or those whom the algorithm sees?
