I do not plan a vacation according to the list of "10 places to visit". I choose places where you can get lost. And to turn any trip into an adventure, you do not need money, but a hunger for something new.
The first rule is never to book excursions. My route is a random turn on the street, a snack bar with the smell of caramel, a shop with soap bubbles.
I never buy magnets. I take with me a pebble from the beach, a napkin with a picture or a map with the places where my throat went dry from laughter circled.
In each city I have my own drink. In one - coffee with salted caramel. In another, there's sangria with strawberries. In the third, there's just ice in a glass. It becomes an anchor. I return - and immediately feel what was.
Adventure is not adrenaline. It's when you're sitting on a step by the canal, and a guy with a guitar walks by, and you understand that there's nothing special about this moment, except for one thing - he's yours. And you're happy.
I often write postcards to myself. I don't send them. I just put them in my bag. A year later, I read them - and it's like I'm back in that city. This is my way of traveling through time.
And also - I'm never shy about talking to someone first. It could be a saleswoman, a boy with ice cream, or a woman with a dog. Each such contact is like a flash. And now an ordinary street is not just a street, but a stage for your personal story.
The main thing is not to be afraid to lose your way. Because that's where the real adventure begins.
