It was two years ago, at the beginning of autumn.
In a small town near Chernigov, not far from an ancient monastery, almost on the border with the forest.
The house was old.
It was always quiet there, and at night you could hear foxes howling, branches crackling and as if someone was wandering nearby…
But I got used to it.
One evening I had a strange dream.
I was standing in the forest, in a thin white dress, and in front of me was a woman.
In black, with her head covered, but I did not see her face.
I only heard her voice: "It's time to return what you took."
I woke up from a feeling of cold not in my dream, but in the room.
Although all the windows were closed, an icy draft blew from under the door.
Then I thought it was just a strange dream. But...
A couple of days later, I found an old wooden box in the attic.
All covered in dust, darkened by time.
I didn't even immediately understand how it got there.
Inside, a photograph of a woman in that same black scarf.
And a note on old paper: "Don't touch her if you're not ready to pay the price."
Goosebumps ran down my spine.
That evening, the lamp in the hallway burned out, and birds suddenly began knocking on the glass three times, exactly.
And all this time I had a feeling that I was not alone...
That night, I had the same dream again.
But this time the woman showed me our house, my house.
And she said: "She left, but left a trace. Find the candles."
In the morning, already half believing in what was happening, I went to the old pantry.
And I found a bundle of wax candles, sooty, as if they had not been lit for a hundred years.
I don’t know how to explain what happened next.
The dreams stopped only after I lit all the candles at midnight and left the open box by the window. In the morning it was empty.
And the house became different - lighter, as if something had left. Or, on the contrary, returned to its place...
Time has passed since then.
The house stands empty, sometimes it seems to me - it itself asked me to leave.
I don’t like to tell this story often.
But sometimes... I want to check: Do you believe in mysticism?
Have you ever had something in your life that you couldn't explain with logic, facts, common sense?.. Something that gave you goosebumps, but inside you felt it wasn't just a coincidence?
