Dear travelers, if you are going to Italy, get ready for an avalanche of pasta, emotions and eternal questions: "Why doesn't the GPS understand these narrow streets?" To survive in this delicious, but slightly chaotic country, here are 5 tips from an experienced one (that is, me, who once ordered three first courses because he could not choose 😉😂).
1. Forget about the diet
Italy is a country where salad is considered a crime against humanity. You will be offered pasta, pizza, risotto and desserts with such an expression on their face as if the fate of the nation depends on your "yes". Just accept it. You will return home a size larger, but happy.
2. Speak with your hands
Italians communicate not only with their mouths, but with their whole bodies. One gesture can mean “what a beautiful weather” or “I’m going to throw your pineapple pizza out the window.” If you forgot the words, just wave your hands. They will understand.
3. Coffee is sacred
Cappuccino after 11am? Mamma mia! It’s like asking for cold borscht (haha). Espresso in the morning, macchiato before lunch, and after meals, only “un caffe normale.” And yes, latte is just milk.
4. Don’t trust GPS in old towns
Your navigator will take you to a 15th-century wall and happily announce: “You have arrived!” In Italian towns, roads were built when horses were the main means of transport. It’s better to ask a local for directions; he will explain with enthusiasm, even if he doesn’t know.
5. Relax
Italy lives by the principle of "piano-piano" (slowly-slowly). Lunch for two hours, siesta, evening passaggiata... If something goes wrong, take a deep breath, order more wine and enjoy.
And now anjame! (Let's go!) 🍕🇮🇹
