Night in the city is another world. During the day it is hurried, noisy, with endless affairs and faces. But as soon as the sun hides, it throws off its mask. The lanterns light slowly, one after another, as if someone is drawing light on the empty streets.
I went out without a goal. I just wanted to walk, to feel this crisp evening air, which smells of something fresh and a little secret. The shop windows had already put out their bright signs, and only the soft golden light of the lanterns fell on the pavement.
I like to watch the windows of houses at this time. Somewhere a table lamp is burning, someone is drinking tea, someone is reading a book. These small scenes of other people's lives seem especially cozy when you look from the darkness of the street.
Sometimes we meet rare passers-by. We exchange brief glances, as if we understand: each of us came out on this night for our own reason. And each of us is looking for something. Maybe just peace. Maybe inspiration.
The light of the lanterns makes the city different. It is softer, slower, as if ready to share its secrets. And you walk, walk, until you feel that the night has filled you with silence and light at the same time.
