When I think about a picnic, it is not a basket of food that comes to mind, but a feeling of freedom. The location is important, because it sets the tone. I like it when there is space before my eyes: a river, a field or a hill. Then my breathing becomes deeper and my thoughts are clearer.
A blanket is a symbol of coziness. As soon as it is laid out on the grass, it seems like my little island. It is always warmer and calmer there. I like to sit with my legs stretched out and feel how time seems to slow down.
As for food, I do not believe in huge sets. For me, lightness is more important: fruit, cheese, something sweet, sometimes fresh bread. Food in nature is always tastier, even if it is simple sandwiches.
Drinks create an atmosphere no less. Cold lemonade with mint or light wine in a transparent glass make the moment festive. I once took only water that had warmed up in the sun, and that's when I realized how important every detail is.
But perhaps the most important thing in a picnic is the people. When there are people around with whom you can laugh, share silence and just be yourself, the grass is softer and the air is tastier. And if you add music or simple games like frisbee, the day becomes truly easy.
I love small details: candles in jars, garlands, a camera. They turn an ordinary outing into magic. And even if you come back tired, inside you always feel full and happy. For me, this is the perfect picnic.
