And people are proud of it, as if it were the main indicator that they are "successful" or "stylish".
I don't understand this hype. Every time someone brags about a fresh manicure, I catch myself thinking: "Is it worth it?" 🤷♀️ The polish still wears off, nails break, fingers get dirty from coffee, and all this effort and money are fleeting. And for some reason, society instills in us that if you don't have perfectly manicured nails, you seem to have lost in some invisible ranking.
I also painted my nails. Of course, it was beautiful. But after a week, they frayed, and all that “gloss” disappeared, leaving a feeling of emptiness. 💭 Why do we need it? To look good for someone or for ourselves? And honestly, how many times has the beauty of a manicure actually made my life better? Almost never.
I think people have become too carried away by superficial rituals. Manicures have become a symbol of status, not pleasure. And at some point, I stopped chasing trends. I’d rather wear my short, untreated nails, do things that really make me happy, and stop worrying about someone, somewhere, thinking I’m “unkempt.” ✨
Manicures are not evil, they can be beautiful and pleasant. But are they overrated? Yes. Sometimes you just need to stop and ask yourself: “Am I doing this for myself or for someone else’s approval?” And the answer is often surprisingly liberating. 💫
