Autumn is coming. I've already noticed the first signs: the evenings are getting cooler, the sky is a little softer in color, and the air seems heavier and quieter. Many people feel sad about this time of year, but I've never seen only despondency in it. Autumn for me is an invitation to go outside and slow down.
There is a beauty in this time of year. A walk in the park among the trees that are still green but are already starting to turn yellow is like a journey inside a painting. The leaves rustle under your feet, and this is the only soundtrack that is really needed. Sometimes I walk without headphones, because I want to hear this sound.
In autumn, the world seems to become intimate, and this is what makes it cozy. There is no fuss of summer, when everything around is loud and bright, and there is not yet that cold that drives you home in winter. Walks turn into meditation: you look at people's faces, they are in a hurry, and you walk slowly, as if watching a performance.
I like to notice little things: how a person carries an umbrella, although it has not rained yet; how a girl collects the first fallen leaves, as if they were treasures; how the smell of coffee from a small coffee shop mixes with the cool air. These details make autumn special.
There is sadness in it, of course. But is sadness a bad thing? It adds depth. You can walk and think about what is leaving, and at the same time rejoice in what is yet to come. Autumn teaches you to accept change and find joy in the simple.
My little ritual is to buy a paper cup of hot cocoa and just go somewhere without a goal. It is amazing how many thoughts come to me at such moments. Maybe that is why autumn is my most inspiring time for walks.
