Have values changed compared to the last century?
id: 10052793

People lived differently, communicated differently, loved differently. But have values changed? Let's get this straight.

💍 Family and relationships

In the last century, family was considered the main goal of life. Marriage is once and for all. The divorce was something shameful.
Today, the situation is the opposite: divorces have become the norm, marriages are concluded later, many live in civil unions or choose solitude altogether.
But at the same time, the value of sincere love and support remained. Only now it's more about choice and freedom than about duty.

💼 Work and success

XX century: "Work hard and you will get stability."
21st century: "Work smart and you'll get freedom."
Career growth used to be almost the only path to success. Flexibility is now appreciated: remote, freelance, own projects. Success is measured not by the number of years in the factory, but by the work-life balance.

🌍 Society and freedom

In the last century, a lot of things were tough: the role of men and women, attitudes to sexuality, religion, politics.
Today, the value is the freedom to be yourself. People are increasingly choosing not "as is customary," but "as I want."
But freedom has also created a downside—more stress, responsibility, and loneliness.

📱 Technology and communication

Previously, an email took weeks to complete, but today a message takes only a fraction of a second.
But has the quality of communication changed? Probably, yes. Today, speed is valued, not depth. We write in short phrases instead of long letters. But the need for real contact has remained the same.

⚖️

The values at the core have not changed: We still want love, friendship, respect, meaning, and security.
But the forms in which they manifest themselves have become different.
The 20th century is about "must." The 21st century is about "I want".
