When I was younger, I often thought that I should first earn the love of others by being perfect, always smiling, and not showing weakness. But over time, I realized that if you don't love yourself, no one else can truly love you.
Self-love is not selfishness or pride. It is the acceptance of one's flaws and strengths, the ability to take care of oneself and respect one's feelings.
I learned it gradually. Sometimes it was difficult to please everyone and forget about your own desires. But one day I decided to stop and ask myself, “What do I want? What do I need?”
I began to devote time to myself to read books, walk in nature, listen to my favorite music. I learned to say no to things that make me unhappy. And little by little I've learned to forgive myself for mistakes, because I'm a human being too.
Loving yourself does not immediately stop doubting or stop being afraid. It's a step-by-step learning to be kind and patient with yourself. Smile at your reflection in the mirror, thank yourself for being able to go through another day.
Every day I remind myself that I deserve happiness and kindness. And you too.
