The challenges are obvious: endless shifts, lack of sleep, shortages of supplies, and the heavy weight of responsibility. You can’t just leave your feelings at the door, the stories, the faces, the fears of people stay with you. And yet, you have to stay strong enough to keep helping the next person who walks in.
But believe it or not, there are funny moments too. People are still people, they make jokes even while being treated. I remember a soldier who insisted his “battle wound” was proof he was irresistible to women, and that I should confirm it by giving him my phone number. Another time, a patient on painkillers tried to serenade me with a song about nurses being angels… but he forgot the words halfway through and started humming instead. 😂
These little things keep us going. They remind me that even when life is harsh, the human spirit doesn’t break so easily. We still laugh and look forward to tomorrow.
Do you think humor really helps us survive the hardest times? And do you believe people can stay lighthearted, even when everything around them feels heavy?
Whoever's reading this, I hope you have a good and peaceful day!
