The art of small escapes from everyday life

We often think that a reboot requires a vacation, tickets to another country, or at least a weekend. But I’ve learned to do small “escapes” just during the day - and they work just as well.

One of them is to change the route. If I’m going home, I specifically turn in the other direction, even if it’s an extra 10 minutes. It feels like you’re discovering a small new world, even though you’re in your own city.

Another way I use is to listen to different soundtracks to set your mood. Music really changes the perception of the moment: you can walk down the same street and feel like you’re in a different movie.

And my favorite: short stops. Just sit on a bench, put down your phone, and watch people, the sky, and the traffic. It’s more calming than any meditation.

Small escapes like these remind me that even in the midst of a routine day, you can find a bit of freedom and lightness.

Do you have your own little ways to “switch off” from everyday life?
