Winter in Spain is completely different from what many people imagine. Yes, it's chilly here now, you want to wrap yourself in a scarf in the mornings, and the sea looks especially calm and meditative. But it's in winter that Spain truly reveals itself to me beautifully: without the bustle, without the sweltering heat, with transparent light and a wonderful sense of space.
I especially love Barcelona in winter: strolls through the Gothic Quarter, the silence by the sea, and the feeling that the city breathes more slowly. Andalusia at this time of year is simply mesmerizing: Granada with the Alhambra against the backdrop of the snow-capped Sierra Nevada, Seville with its soft sun and the scent of oranges. Madrid in winter is austere and elegant, perfect for museums and long walks. And then there's San Sebastian in the north: the ocean, fresh air, and incredible cuisine, especially cozy in the cold season.
Winter here isn't about hibernation, but about depth, beauty, and inner peace.
What are your thoughts on winter travel? Have you been to Spain during the colder months, rather than in summer? What cities or places would you add to this list?
