From past to future: Dreams and plans
I want to point out that January is a month of hope and planning, and this can be a great way to use this in conversation. Instead of asking about what has already happened, try to shift your attention to what is yet to come. I'll share an idea with you: ask the person you're talking to about the experiences they want to have this year. For example, where would he go if he could buy a ticket to anywhere in the world right tomorrow, or what new hobby does he dream of learning this spring? Such questions open the door to the world of a person’s values and show how he really lives when work deadlines remain outside the brackets.
Winter comfort and personal preferences
During the cold season, we all involuntarily strive for comfort, and this is an excellent basis for bonding. I often think that our everyday habits say more about us than our official biography. I’ll share a thought with you: try discussing “winter rituals.” What is the perfect end to a frosty day for your companion? Does he like noisy companies or prefer an evening with a book and a cup of tea? Discussing your favorite movies, atmospheric places in the city, or even your favorite recipes for warm drinks creates an atmosphere of intimacy and comfort right here and now. This allows you to feel how your ideas about comfort coincide.
Little joys and curiosity
I want to tell you about the power of questions that begin with the words “What if...”. In January, when daylight is still short, we often lack bright emotions, and intellectual play in conversation can make up for them. I'll share with you my approach: don't be afraid to ask questions that are a little weird or childish. For example, about your favorite superpower, about the most unusual place where a person has ever woken up, or about a book that changed his view of the world. When the themes of the holidays are exhausted, the most interesting part begins - the study of personality. It is such lively, unconventional conversations that help you understand whether that same spark has arisen between you that will warm you until spring.
