The habit of putting everything off “for later” and why it’s not always about procrastination

We often scold ourselves for putting off simple things: a call, a purchase, a conversation, a decision. We call it laziness or weakness. But “later” does not always mean unwillingness.

Sometimes “later” is a way of protecting ourselves. When there is too much tension inside, the brain chooses to pause. Not because it can’t, but because now is not the time. And this is normal, although we are rarely taught to respect this state.

The problem does not begin with procrastination, but with constant self-blame. When we stop putting pressure on ourselves and honestly ask: “Why am I not ready now?” - the answer often comes faster than expected.
