Mother was talking about preserving food, but she was also talking about everything else. About faith. About character. About relationships between people.
In the city, I hear they want everything instantly. Instant food, instant communication, instant answers to questions that should require prayer and reflection. But God's creation doesn't work that way. A tree doesn't grow to full height in a day. A calf doesn't become a strong ox overnight. Why do we expect human hearts to be any different?
I find peace in the rhythms that don't change. The soil still needs tilling. The chickens still need feeding. The bread still needs kneading and time to rise. These simple tasks connect me to every woman who came before me, and they remind me that the best things in life are built slowly, with faithful hands and patient hearts π
