Is it possible to live on 30,000 hryvnias a month in Ukraine?

30,000 hryvnias is about $700. On paper, it doesn't seem like a small amount, especially when compared to the minimum wage. But reality quickly puts everything in perspective.

If you live alone, don't rent expensive housing, and don't have serious health issues, you can manage. But let's break it down honestly.

Housing.
Rent for a one-bedroom apartment in a medium - sized city is 8,000 - 12,000 hryvnias. In a big city, it's easily 12,000-15,000 hryvnias. Plus utilities: in winter, that's another 3,000 - 5,000 hryvnias. Half your budget is already gone.

Food.
Even with a very frugal approach - cooking at home, without restaurants or deliveries - that's a minimum of 6,000 - 8,000 hryvnias per person. If you have children, it's even more.

Transportation, communications, and household expenses.
Transportation, mobile phone service, internet, household cleaning supplies, and clothing as needed - another 2,000 - 3,000 hryvnias, and that's without the extravagances.

Medicine.
This is where the hardest part begins. Any medication, tests, dental work - they all instantly wipe out the budget. Even a small problem can eat up a month's supply.

So, what's left?
You can survive on 30,000 hryvnias, but it's difficult to live comfortably. This is a life without savings, without a safety net, without confidence in the future. Any unexpected event - and debt or outside help begins.

For a family with one or two children, this is almost impossible without additional income.

The bottom line is simple: 30,000 hryvnias isn't about comfort. It's about constant calculations, saving, and stress. People in Ukraine know how to live in such conditions, but that doesn't mean it's normal or easy.

And perhaps the most honest question isn't "is it really possible to survive?" but rather why so many people are forced to survive on this kind of money.
