Few people know, but Valentine's Day has several versions of its origin. One of the most romantic is associated with the Roman priest Valentine, who secretly married lovers, despite the ban of Emperor Claudius II. Legend has it that before his execution, Valentine sent his beloved girlfriend a letter signed "Your Valentine." This is how the tradition of Valentine cards with declarations of love appeared.
Another version goes back to the ancient Roman holiday of Lupercalia, the festival of fertility and love. Over time, it mixed with Christian traditions, and the very Valentine's Day that we know today appeared.
Traditions from all over the world. Did you know that in Japan, on February 14, it is customary to give chocolate not only to loved ones, but also to friends, colleagues, and sometimes even to superiors? And in Denmark, lovers exchange dried white flowers and playful rhymes. In Italy, this day is called "sweet" because couples exchange sweets and arrange romantic dinners.
Love is not just about February 14th. Of course, love is not limited to one day a year. But how nice it is sometimes to stop, look into each other's eyes and say, "I appreciate you." May this Valentine's Day be an occasion for you not only to receive, but also to give warmth, attention and smiles.
