The importance of being present
id: 10043208

Every day, I meet people whose lives are suddenly turned upside down by a cancer diagnosis. It is always a difficult moment, filled with fear, uncertainty, and a multitude of questions about the future. At times like these, one realizes with particular intensity just how important it is to be able to live in the present.

In his book, Eckhart Tolle emphasizes that the present moment is the only thing we truly possess. The past is gone, and the future has not yet arrived. It is a simple yet powerful principle that helps us find peace and strength in the most challenging situations.
When working with patients, it is important to me not only to treat their bodies but also to support their spirits. One way to do this is by helping them recognize and embrace the present moment. We often discuss their experiences, fears, and hopes, focusing on what they can do right here and now to improve their condition and quality of life.
Tolle writes: "Awareness of the present moment is a deep inner sense that everything is okay right now, regardless of what is happening on the outside." This is especially relevant for people facing life-and-death situations. By helping patients find this sense of presence, we not only improve their psychological well-being but sometimes even observe positive changes in their physical condition!
I, too, regularly return to the practice of being present. My work involves constant stress and emotional strain, and it is only through the practice of mindfulness that I find balance and harmony. Tolle suggests simple practices, such as focusing on the breath, observing one’s thoughts without judgment, and regular meditation. These methods help me maintain mental clarity and emotional resilience. Working as an oncologist has taught me that every moment of life is precious. Patients facing great hardships often exemplify remarkable inner strength and the ability to live in the present. Eckhart Tolle’s book Stillness Speaks offers us the keys to recognizing and cherishing every moment, regardless of the circumstances!
I know many women blog about love, travel, and future plans, but today I felt compelled to write about what truly matters during these challenging times. I hope this helps someone.
