Every day I would think about it and every day I would say I will do it tomorrow. Two weeks turned into three and I started to feel guilty. Then I remembered that Father's Day was coming up and I knew I could not let it pass without telling him what he means to me.

My father has always been my hero. Not in a loud way. He never gave speeches or told me how to live my life. He just showed up. Every single day. He worked hard, he stayed, and he made sure I never felt alone. That set the standard for every man I ever let into my life. I did not realize it until I was older, but I have been comparing every man to him without even knowing it.

I want to take a moment to appreciate the men who do the quiet work. The ones who get up early and come home late. The ones who fix things without being asked and listen without interrupting. The ones who stay even when it is easier to leave. My father is one of those men. And I know there are many more of you reading this.

So I took him out for Father's Day and bought him a gift too. Just the two of us. Nothing too fancy. Just a quiet meal and a walk after. I told him I was sorry I waited so long to call. He just smiled and said "you are here now." That made me feel like I was still 15 and still had time.

I am going to call him again tomorrow. I am not going to wait two more weeks.
