Rejection is not a reflection of your worth. It is just a sign that you and that person were not the right fit.

The first step to handling rejection is to stop taking it personally. I know that sounds easier said than done. When someone rejects you, your brain wants to find a reason. You start questioning your looks, your personality, your value. You replay conversations looking for clues about what you did wrong. But the truth is, most of the time it has nothing to do with you. People reject others for reasons that have nothing to do with the person being rejected. They are not ready, they are not over someone else, or they are simply looking for something different. It is not about you.

The second step is to allow yourself to feel it. Do not pretend it does not bother you. It is okay to be disappointed. It is okay to feel sad. Give yourself permission to sit with that feeling for a little while. Just do not live there. Feel it, acknowledge it, and then let it go. The longer you hold onto it, the more power it has over you.

The third step is to remind yourself of your own value. Rejection can make you feel small, but you are not small. Make a list of things you like about yourself. Write down your strengths. Remember the people who love and appreciate you. Rejection from one person does not erase everything good about you.

The final step is to keep showing up. The worst thing you can do after a rejection is to close yourself off. Do not let one person's decision make you afraid to try again. Every no brings you closer to a yes. Every rejection is a redirection. Keep showing up and keep being yourself. The right person will not reject you. They will choose you.
