1. Talk about expectations before you book anything.

Do you both want the same thing from this meeting? Are you looking to see if there is chemistry, or are you hoping for something more serious? Be honest with each other before you invest time and money.

2. Choose a neutral location

It is usually best to meet somewhere that feels safe and comfortable for both of you. A city that is easy for both of you to get to, or a place one of you knows well enough to show the other around.

3. Plan for time, not pressure.

Give yourselves a few days together if you can. Rushing through a first meeting in a single evening rarely gives you the full picture. But also do not put too much pressure on the outcome. It is a first meeting, not a marriage proposal.

4. Have an exit plan.

This is not romantic, but it is practical. Make sure you have your own accommodation, your own transport, and enough money to leave if you need to. You hope it goes well, but it is always smart to be prepared.

5. Keep communication open.

Talk about what you are feeling before, during, and after the meeting. If you are nervous, say so. If you are excited, say that too. Honesty builds trust.

6. Manage your expectations.

You have built a connection through screens. That is real, but it is not the whole picture. Be open to the possibility that it might feel different in person, for better or worse.

7. Remember why you are doing this.

You are meeting because you believe there could be something special here. Let that hope guide you, but let reality ground you too.
