Only one person wrote to me on this birthday.

And it was warm. Genuine. Without the cliched "Happy Birthday" and emojis. Just a few sincere words that made me feel a little quieter and calmer inside.

I'm grateful. Truly.

But somewhere deeper, there's another thought.

At forty-four, I probably expected more.

Not fireworks and hundreds of messages. Just... for someone else to remember. For at least a few warm lines to flash by. To feel that I'm not alone.

And in the end—silence. And one message.

And then this nasty, sticky thought appears:
maybe I just don't deserve more?

Maybe I'm not close enough, not needed enough, not... something enough.

I sit and look at this single greeting.

It's real.
And that, in theory, should be enough.

But still, somewhere inside, a slight bitterness lingers.

It's as if, at forty-four, you suddenly clearly see how much empty space there really is around you.
