Even those who consider themselves "enlightened," "mindful," and "above emotions." Especially them. They've just learned to disguise it beautifully.
Science explained everything long ago. Daniel Kahneman, in "Thinking, Fast and Slow," showed that we have two modes in our heads. System 1 is fast, automatic, and emotional. System 2 is slow and rational. Guess which one operates 95% of the time? Correct. We're almost always in "first acted/thought, then realized" mode.
The confirmation bias and the fundamental attribution error aren't some rare bugs. They're the basic programming of the human brain. Even Nobel laureates fall for it. Even psychologists who study these effects.
So when someone says, "I haven't judged for a long time" or "I act only consciously," I just smile quietly. In thirty years, I haven't seen anyone like that in real life. And frankly, I don't expect it anymore.
Accepting that you sometimes run like a tank under the influence of emotions—that, in my opinion, is much more honest and mature than playing the Buddha.
