I have been thinking about how little we actually know about someone when we first meet them. We form opinions in seconds, based on nothing but a photo, a few words, or the way they hold themselves. And yet, we treat these snap judgments as if they are the truth.
First impressions are strange. They are powerful enough to make us decide if we want to talk to someone, but fragile enough to be completely wrong.
I have met people who seemed distant at first but turned out to be the warmest souls I have ever known. I have also met people who charmed me immediately and later revealed themselves to be nothing like who I thought they were. The first impression is not a lie, but it is never the whole story.
We are all more complicated than we appear. The person who seems quiet is not necessarily shy. The person who seems confident is not necessarily secure. The person who seems distant is not necessarily cold.
I have started to remind myself of this whenever I catch myself making a quick judgment. I try to leave room for who someone actually is, not just who they seem to be in the first five minutes.
What do you think?😅
