"Übung macht den Meister" - Practice makes the master.

That was the first German phrase I ever learned. I did not even know what it meant at first. My German friend said it to me when I was complaining about how hard the language was. I asked her what it meant and she said "practice makes the master." It stuck with me.

I have been learning German for a while now. It is not easy. The grammar is relentless. The words are long. The sentence structure is backwards to what I am used to. I still get nervous when I have to speak. I still make mistakes. I still freeze.

But I keep going. Not because I need to be fluent. Because I want to understand. I want to be able to read books in their original language. I want to be able to hold a conversation without switching back to English/Ukrainian. I want to be able to say something that actually sounds like me.

Learning a language is humbling. It strips away your ability to be clever or smooth😅. You sound like a child for a long time. You say things that are clumsy. You mispronounce words and people smile at you with patience. But that is also what makes it beautiful. You are starting from zero and building something new.

I think love is like that too, right? You start from zero. You do not know each other yet. You do not know the rhythm of the other person. You say clumsy things. You misread signals. You make mistakes. But you keep showing up because you want to understand and that's what makes it so special🥰.

Remember, "Übung macht den Meister." Practice makes the master. Not perfection. Just practice. Just showing up and trying again.
