The ben franklin effect✨
id: 10055855

I learned something strange the other day. There is a psychological phenomenon called the Ben Franklin Effect. It says that when you ask someone for a favor, they actually like you more afterwards.

It sounds backwards, right? You would think people like you less when you ask for things. But it works because the brain tries to justify the favor. If I did something for you, I must like you. So I convince myself that I do.

I have been thinking about this a lot lately. Not just in terms of favors, but in relationships. Sometimes we hold back because we do not want to be a burden. We do not want to ask for help, for time, for love. We think it makes us look weak or needy. But maybe the opposite is true. Maybe letting someone in, letting them do something for you, actually brings you closer.

It is hard to ask for things. It is hard to be vulnerable. But I wonder if that is exactly what builds real connection. The willingness to say "I need you" instead of pretending you do not.

When was the last time you let someone do something for you? And did you recently learn something new too? Do share!
