People meet in cafes to get to know each other, to talk after a long separation, to discuss plans, to confess their feelings… And sometimes they just sit across from each other and realize that they don't want this conversation to end at all.
Interestingly, coffee shops really have long been more than just places where a drink was served.
When the first coffee shops appeared in the Ottoman Empire, and later spread across Europe, they gradually became a kind of public spaces. People of different professions met there, discussed the news, argued about politics, played games, read newspapers and just spent time together.
The history of European coffee shops of the XVII–XVIII centuries was especially interesting. In London, for example, coffee shops became places where you could meet all kinds of people - merchants, writers, scientists, travelers. Some establishments have even gained a reputation as places where ideas and new acquaintances are born.
It turns out that a cup of coffee has become something more than just a drink.
It became a little excuse to say,
"Let's sit down and talk."
And isn't that wonderful?
