Three Types of Guys I Don't Need Anymore

Type One: The Rescuer. This is the guy who approaches me like a project. "You're great, but if you lost weight," or "You're smart, but if you were more ambitious." He doesn't see me, but the version of me I can become. And he's willing to help. Generously. By letting me work on myself. I'm tired of being someone else's project. If you don't love me for who I am, leave.

Type Two: The Cub. This is the guy who's incredibly charming, but completely unprepared for responsibility. He wants a girl who will listen to him, support him, and provide structure to his life, but he's not ready to do the same. It's an asymmetrical relationship, and sooner or later I'll just burn out. I don't want to be a mother to a grown man anymore.

Type Three: The Phantom. This is the guy who's physically with me, but emotionally off in the clouds. He doesn't process my words, he doesn't process them. I'm talking, and he hears the noise. It's loneliness with two people, and it's worse than loneliness alone.

I didn't write about "bad boys" or people who leave me. Because that's obvious without me. I wrote about three types with whom I could have built a relationship, but they led me into the same hole time and time again.

Now I'm not waiting for the "perfect guy." I'm waiting for a guy who isn't one of those three types. A guy who can be with me as an equal partner. Is that too much to ask? Maybe. But I stand by her.
