I sold my cozy apartment, gave away my favorite books, and stuffed my entire life into two suitcases. Scared? Horrible. But somewhere deep down, this fear is eclipsed by a burning curiosity. I'm 45, and I'm starting from scratch. In a new country with a different language, different food, and different rules.
I've already downloaded maps, learned survival phrases, and chosen a place for my first morning. I imagine myself drinking coffee on an unfamiliar terrace, listening to unfamiliar speech. Will I be lonely? Probably. Will it be difficult? Definitely. But I've waited too long for this chance to back out.
I want to feel free. I want to make mistakes, fall, get up, and laugh at my mistakes. After all, home isn't about walls, it's about a place where you feel good.
