It turns out that sending a "hi" doesn't actually count as starting a conversation. I thought so too, the first hundred times. Then it hit me, it’s just an entry in a lottery.

I can make a kettle boil with just a glare if a guy hasn't replied for three days. It’s not magic, it’s experience. And yes, the kettle keeps whistling indignantly for a long time afterward.

But seriously I’m not here to collect disappointments. I’m here to find someone I can laugh about these points with. Someone who won’t just write "hi," but something that makes me smile. Someone who’ll tell me about a hobby I’ve never even heard of.
