Is it accepting a person just as they are? Forgiving their weaknesses? Staying by their side even when the relationship hits a rough patch?
At first glance, unconditional love seems like a beautiful thing. After all, true feelings aren't a transaction - like saying, "I love you if you meet my expectations." Yet, there is a fine line between love and losing oneself.
Loving someone doesn't mean tolerating lies, disrespect, or pain. It doesn't mean turning a blind eye to actions that destroy you. You can love with all your heart while simultaneously saying, "I cannot let you treat me this way."
Perhaps healthy love isn't about the absence of conditions, but the absence of any attempt to remake the other person. It’s about accepting their character, their past, their quirks, and their dreams... while still maintaining self-respect.
Sometimes love says, "I am here for you."
And sometimes, it says, "I am letting you go, because I can no longer lose myself."
And perhaps the most mature form of love begins right where we learn to combine two feelings: loving another person without ceasing to love ourselves.
What do you think? Should love truly be unconditional? Or should real relationships have boundaries? ❤️
