I was chatting with a friend over coffee today, and the conversation turned to the topic of children and single mothers. I wonder what society’s view on this is?
I am a single mother myself, but, like any woman, I dream of mutual love with a special man, of understanding and support... And, of course, I would love for my partner to care for my child.
I explained to my friend that I don’t want a partner to try to replace my son's father, since his father is present and involved in his life. However, I would really like my partner to become a mentor and a friend to my child, someone he can trust... Am I asking for too much? Does such a thing even exist?
My friend, on the other hand, believes that having a child will be an obstacle for me in building a relationship... After all, not every man is willing to take on that kind of responsibility, and for some, it’s a total turn-off... Could that really be true?
Personally, I feel that having a child helps weed out the wrong men. After all, only a strong, independent man would see this not as a reason to leave, but as a reason to stay!
Which of us is right?
