Why i quit books at page 50 (and why you should too) 📚✨
id: 10056407

Since childhood, we’ve been taught: "If you start something, finish it" 🛑. Clean your plate, read a book to the very last page, sit through a boring play until the final applause. But what if this approach turns our lives into an endless cycle of fulfilling "obligations"?

Recently, I caught myself struggling through a novel for the third week in a row. My eyes scanned the lines, my mind wandered elsewhere, yet I stubbornly kept turning the pages—telling myself, "Well, it’s a classic," or "People recommended it so highly." Then, it suddenly hit me: my time and mental energy are limited. Why am I pouring them into something that doesn't resonate with me at all?

I closed the book and put it back on the shelf. And you know what? The world didn't end—instead, I felt an incredible sense of relief!

Giving up on things that don't work for you isn't a sign of weakness or laziness. It’s an act of respect for your own time. This applies not only to books but also to dull movies, exhausting hobbies, and even relationships that have long since run their course. Give yourself permission to leave the things that aren't "for you" behind—at page 50—and move on.
