I wish all Catholic people a Happy Easter! May this day become a warm, cozy and pleasant holiday for you. Ukrainian people celebrate Easter a week later, but we respect all religions and customs! Moreover, one day I can find a foreign man here, which means we will celebrate two Easters. So as a bonus, a man find not only a woman but many new traditions. It is so wonderful! I know that many people from other countries have no idea about Ukrainian customs of celebrating Easter... Let me help you! First of all, it is a special family holiday. Usually all people gather together, but this year we have some restrictions about meeting people and going outside. So 2020 is a year when the closest family members celebrate this bright and majestic holiday together! They eat all day, communicate, play Easter games and have lots of fun. It's a day of light, family values and kindness. Secondly, it's the best time to eat delicious food. Many people don't eat before Easter. This tradition is called the Great Lent! So after a strict diet, people are ready to cook a lot and eat delicioius food. The table is always full of boiled eggs, Easter cakes, fried meat, fish, cottage cheese pancakes, caviar, dumplings. Yummy! The special game for Easter is called "Easter Egg Tapping". In English folk traditions, the game has variously been known as "shackling", "jarping" or "dumping". It's a wonderful game when people have fun and enjoy company of each other! So Easter in Ukraine can be very romantic. We decorate our homes with tulips, dandelions and violets. Ukrainian people have good family values, and they are always ready to help foreigner to learn something new!
