About soviet stereotypes

A friend of mine writes the other day. She was in a nearby town. In my area there are not so often acquaintances, so I invited her to meet for coffee. She, of course, says: come on, but can you pick me up? Well, they say there is no Uber here, but you are only 20 minutes away. I think there is no Uber, but there is a regular taxi. I answer that I have a car for a technical inspection. You can also take a bus, 30-40 minutes and no problem. To which I heard a phrase that literally struck me: “me and the bus are not a very good option”.
Well, I kind of don't understand what, but only in Russia have I met such a soviet mentality that it is shameful to use public transport. As soon as a person started making money, I often heard phrases like this, they say: “Where am I and where is the metro ?! What do you allow yourself at all! " )) The main thing is that there are grandmothers for both Chanel and a taxi, the girl is not a stupid even once, and she herself earns good money, but the thinking is soviet all the same.

In New York, for some reason, even Hollywood stars calmly use the subway and nothing, but here you see “where I am and where all this is”.
Tell me, what is this really a scoop?))
When I lived and worked in Moscow, I bought myself a car for a simple reason: it was inconvenient to get to the metro from where I lived. Nice area and house, but there is no metro nearby. I spent a lot of money a month on a taxi, it was more profitable to buy a car. Nevertheless, I do not neglect public transport either in Moscow or anywhere else.

Where is this nonsense in people, can you explain to me?) Why are Russians so notorious?
